Pignosed arrowtooth eel
The Pignosed arrowtooth eel (''Dysomma brevirostre'', also known as the Batnose eel〔(Common names of ''Dysomma brevirostre'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕) is an eel in the family Synaphobranchidae (cutthroat eels).〔(''Dysomma brevirostre'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Luigi Facciolà in 1887.〔Facciolà, L., 1887 (16780 ) ''Intorno a due Lepadogastrini ed un nuovo Nettastoma del mare di Sicilia.'' Lettera al Ch. Dott. Cristoforo Bellotti. Naturalista Siciliano (Naturalista Siciliano, Giornale di scienze naturali ) v. 6: 163-167, Pl. 3.〕 It is a marine, deep water-dwelling eel which is known from the eastern and western Atlantic Ocean, including Madeira Island, the Gulf of Guinea, the Ligurian Sea, Italy, and Florida and Hawaii, USA. It dwells at a depth range of , and inhabits soft sediments on the continental slope. Males can reach a maximum total length of .〔
